Eliminate Negative Distractions (The Everyday Five Part 3)

The struggle is real when it comes to negative distractions. If you find yourself trapped in an endless battle with addictions such as drunkenness, greed, or gossiping, then this post will teach you some things you can do to eliminate negative distractions. We are on a journey to discovering things confident people do every day. In this third lesson, we will discuss how to eliminate negative distractions by looking at Philippians 4:8.

Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Paul reminds us in this moment that God guards our hearts and that we are to fill our minds with things that please God. We are commanded to live according to God’s way, and in this verse, we see some things that God’s way is about. We see that God’s way focuses on being true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and so much more. God is working in your life and helping you grow closer to Him. But God also gives us some work to do

When we put these words into practice, they stay in our minds and help us eliminate negative distractions.


Some practical advice going forward that will help you eliminate negative distractions:

  1. Start your day in prayer and thanksgiving

  2. Read God’s Word daily

  3. Focus your eyes and thoughts on Jesus

  4. Find accountability

Your thought life matters. You were never meant to live distracted, anxious, or overwhelmed.
You were meant to live with a clear mind, anchored in the truth of God.

So today, ask yourself:
What’s one distraction I can let go of?
And what’s one Philippians 4:8 thought I can cling to instead?
