Reach Your Potential

I was recently asked, “What is that one thing you want to accomplish in life and will do anything to achieve it?”

I’d imagine everyone has an answer to that question. A few days later, I asked my friend, “Do you think people in this world would be happier if they achieved their goals?”

I learned that studies suggest that as low as 8% of people achieve their goals. Out of the millions of people in this world, very few reach their goals. I believe part of the reason people do not achieve their goals is that they are willing to settle for comfort rather than their calling. God gives us dreams and visions because He has a gift for each of us. When you find the gift God has given you, there is one thing you must do to reach your potential.

To reach your potential, you must remain connected to your Creator. God, who created you, has given you a calling and a plan for your life. If you want to know your purpose, then you must be connected with the One who gives it to you. What happens when you are not? Look at King Saul.

We are introduced to Saul in 1 Samuel. It is here that we read the prophet Samuel anointing Saul as king. God told the prophet Samuel to give the people of Israel what they wanted: a king. The people chose to follow an earthly king instead of abiding in the King of Kings. The man who was anointed, Saul, was not like the true King, God. As a human, Saul had flaws and fell short of the potential God had for him. Saul, over time, became prideful and arrogant. Because Saul chose to think of himself as higher than he was, it caused him to be disconnected from his Creator. Saul’s prideful and arrogant attitude caused him to miss the potential to be a good king.

Are you connected to your Creator? If you are not, you will never reach what God has for you. What God has planned for your life is far greater than your goals. The first step to being in God’s plan for your life is to be sure you are connected with the Creator, and that begins with a relationship with Jesus Christ.
