One Thing You Can Do For God Today (The Everyday Five: Week 1)

Over the next five weeks, I am excited to begin a new series called “The Everyday Five.” What does that mean? This series is about finding confidence in everyday situations. Over the next five weeks, we will talk about five things you can do every day to focus on God and find confidence in Him. Today’s message is about the one thing you can do for God.

What is that one thing?

To answer that, let’s look at what Paul says in Colossians 3:23. He says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

Paul wrote to the church of Colossae at a time when it was facing doctrinal issues and challenges. This letter reminded them of Jesus Christ’s supremacy and importance. In the latter half of the letter, Paul reminds the church of what a Christian’s life should look like.

Now, the one thing we should do daily is “Work with all our hearts for God.” Accomplish at least one thing each day that will glorify God.

The task may not seem important, but with a heart set on glorifying God, you can accomplish one thing daily, knowing that your work is essential. This task is not focused on an earthly reward, but obedience to Jesus.

What is that one thing you can do today? Perhaps it is to read your Bible, pray, say one kind word to someone, or not put off that one task you keep refusing to do. When Paul uses the word “Whatever,” he implies all sorts of tasks. We are to accomplish a task with enthusiasm, knowing our work will glorify God when our hearts are set on Him. You are not working for man, you are working to honor God.

What is that one task you can do today that will remind you that your work is for God’s glory?

Your first step to everyday confidence is accomplishing at least one thing and glorifying God.
